Greece Insider

What is Greece Insider all about?

The Greeks like to think that they brought Democracy to the rest of the world.

That’s pretty much everything they have to show for since it took them just 2,500 years to go from being the cradle of civilization (Brits, please excuse my American spelling) to what they are today.

So what are they today?

Greece is a disorganised state. Despite the fact that it has a huge number of people working in the public sector, government functions and interactions with the public are still complicated, they take time and they also usually take money under the table.

Greece is largely a bipartisan country with the two major parties getting 70% to 80% of the vote. In this environment, corruption from both parties and in all branches of the government is inevitable. In 2007, Greece was the EU’s leader in corruption.

So, here we are to expose the problems of the average Greek to the world, and hope that we get a little attention to make someone think twice before being bribed again to make the Greeks’ lives more miserable.

Someone I know asked me why I hated Greece so much as to actually devote personal time to make us look bad abroad. I don’t hate Greece. I love it, like every man loves its country.

But I can’t say I love all aspects of it.

I don’t love taking part in protest rallies and then vote for the party I was protesting against. I don’t love hiding my country’s faults to avoid making us look bad. I don’t love spending my vote to keep the same people in power to proliferate a situation that should change.

Without any ties to any the state, I feel it’s my duty to bring shame to my fellow countrymen who bring shame to me as a Greek.

I’ll cite my sources when they are public and in English, and I’ll just write it how I feel it when they are not. After all, this is not a newspaper.

You get the news as it is; not like my editor would like to serve it to you.
